Does a thyroid nodule require immediate surgery?
Many people immediately become concerned when they discover a nodule in their neck and consider surgery. However, surgery is not always necessary!
When is surgery recommended?
• If the nodule is of low quality (cancer);
• If the nodule is growing very rapidly;
• If it causes pain, shortness of breath, or severe discomfort when swallowing;
• If a toxic goiter is present.
When is observation sufficient?
In most cases, nodules are of good quality, and in such cases, only dynamic observation is prescribed. This includes:
Ultrasound examination every 3-6 months;
Blood tests;
If necessary, a biopsy, MRI, or CT scan is performed.
The most important thing is to rely on the international TI-RADS classification when making a diagnosis. Don't be indifferent to your health and consult a specialist!
