Cortisol is a hormone that regulates sleep and wake cycles, it follows a rhythm specific to your sleep cycle. Elevated cortisol levels can affect your immune system. And the thing is, levels of the hormone are elevated just after waking up. Drinking coffee right after you open your eyes can do more harm than good. It can even make you immune to caffeine for a while
Therefore, it is recommended to have your first cup of coffee at least 45 minutes after waking up, ideally between 10:00 and 12:00. You should not drink coffee after noon, as this can interfere with healthy sleep.
