Premature sexual development can be one of the symptoms of brain neoplasms, congenital syndromes, adrenal, testicular or ovarian abnormalities.
First of all, parents need to be alert if the child grows too fast. There may also be other signs:
Premature sexual development in girls (up to 8 years of age):
-mammary gland enlargement;
- pubic and/or axillary hair loss;
-discharge from the genital tract (bleeding, menstruation).
Premature sexual development in boys (up to age 9):
-enlargement of the testicles;
-enlargement of the penis;
- pubic and/or axillary hair loss;
-changes in the timbre of the voice.
At the Endocrinology Center, pediatric endocrinologists see patients daily from 8:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. on weekdays, and until 2 p.m. on Saturdays.
